As a result of dramatic changes in industry legislation, in excess of 20,000 air conditioning units in the UK need to be urgently replaced. Is yours one of them?
From 1st January 2015, it will be illegal to use Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), including the refrigerant gas R22 for Servicing, in refrigeration, heat pump and air conditioning systems. R22 is commonly used in air conditioning systems pre-dating 2004.
The changes in the R22 refrigeration legislation have come about because studies have shown that HCFCs, such as R22, have a detrimental effect on the ozone layer, resulting in excessive UV levels. From 2015, it will no longer be possible to service air conditioning systems with any R22, whether that be virgin, recycled or reclaimed. Consequently, most companies are choosing to phase out R22 refrigeration systems, rather than go to the expense of needlessly repairing or maintaining them.
Tate Technical offers a comprehensive range of modern, energy-efficient and cost-effective alternatives to air conditioning units which are obsolete due to their poor energy efficiency and/or use of R22 refrigerant.
